The Sladek residence was badly damaged in a fire. State Farm investigated the loss, had as-built plans prepared, hired an engineering firm to determine the scope of repair, hired a contractor the bid the repair, and proposed this as a settlement to Ms. Sladek for her loss. Ms. Sladek rejected this, hired another contractor to prepare a separate repair scope and bid this same scope; she then counter-offered her own settlement proposal. Ms. Sladek also hired an architect to completely redesign her residence in an enlarged and improved manner; she claimed additional living expenses for the time required to complete this design. We were hire as part of a three-person arbitration panel to settle this dispute.
